However, Disney+ also has mature content that you won’t want your children to watch. As such, there are various parental controls that you can utilize to keep your kids safe.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to create a child’s profile and use the parental controls on Disney+.

How to Create a Kid’s Profile on Disney+

On Disney+, a kid’s profile is a streamlined version of a regular profile. The interface is more colorful and puts the focus on characters, the content categories are tailored for a younger audience, like “Sing Your Heart Out” and “Magic and Fairy Tales”, and some features like GroupWatch are disabled.

Perhaps most importantly, the content is specifically curated for children. It only shows television shows rated TV-7FV and movies rated G in the United States, or the equivalent ratings elsewhere.

A kid’s profile also doesn’t show any Disney+ content that has an advisory warning attached, which some older movies have due to their negative depictions of people or cultures.

To create a kid’s profile on Disney+:

Select your profile icon. On a web browser, it’s in the upper-right. On mobile, it’s in the lower-right. On smart TV, navigate left and it’s at the top of the menu. Select Add profile, and enter your password if prompted. Choose an image to represent the profile. Enter a profile name. Enable Kid’s profile. Select Save.

You can also turn an existing profile into a kid’s one. See our guide on how to manage Disney+ profiles if you’re unsure how to edit your profile.

How to Manage Parental Controls on Disney+

Disney+ also offers a range of parental controls that you can apply to any profile, not just those for kids.

The parental controls are:

Content rating: Select a rating/age and the profile will only see titles for that rating/age and below. This cannot be altered on a kid’s profile, as it features a tailored range of content. Kid-proof exit: Only available on a kid’s profile, this feature makes it harder for a child to leave their profile by challenging them to an exit question (e. g. , “Enter the numbers you read. “) Profile PIN: Set a four-digit PIN that must be entered before access is granted to the profile. Restrict profile creation: Creating new profiles requires a password. This can only be set by the account holder.

The first three are applied per profile; simply edit a profile and apply the controls you desire. The fourth, profile creation restriction, can only be set by the account holder in the account settings.

To access your account and enable profile creation restriction:

Select your profile icon. On a web browser, it’s in the upper-right. On mobile, it’s in the lower-right. On smart TV, navigate left and it’s at the top of the menu. Select Account. Enable Restrict Profile Creation. Enter your password when prompted, then select Continue.

Keep Your Kids Safe and Entertained

Sometimes, you need to get your kids out of your hair. What better way to do that than putting them on the couch in front of Monsters at Work, The Wonderful World of Mickey Mouse, or Chip ’n’ Dale: Park Life?

If you want an affordable way to keep them entertained, a subscription to Disney+ will do the job nicely. It’s one of the best streaming services for kids, thanks to its decent parental controls and breadth of child-friendly content.
